The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

DeKalb County Highway Commissioners

The collection consists of historical plat maps for cities and townships in DeKalb County (Ill.) from 1865-1951. Also included are the meeting minutes of the DeKalb County Highway Commission from April 5, 1884- April 15, 1913.

Scope and Contents The Oversize Collection consists of unbound items from various Regional History Center collections which are too large to store in regular archival boxes. First National Bank of Wilmington Records

Scope and Contents

The First National Bank of Wilmington Records consists of a complete run of minutes dating from December 2, 1863 to December 31, 1945.  Four ledgers, three journals, a mortgage loan register, a daily statement volume, and a volume of correspondence add support material while the historical information concludes the collection.

Joseph Llewellyn Company Collection

Mayfield Center School Records

DeKalb County Fine Arts Association Collection

Scope and Contents

The majority of the collection documents the involvement of the Association in the creation of the Ellwood House as a museum. The DeKalb County Fine Arts Association Collection dates from 1961 to 1979 and consists of by-laws, correspondence, and meeting minutes. The collection is by no means complete but will give the researcher background information regarding the formation of the Ellwood House as well as other activities of the Association.

Forrest Hare Papers (Algonquin Township)

Scope and Contents

The Forest Hare Papers date from 1960 to 1982 with the majority of the papers dealing with Forrest Hare's two terms as the Algonquin Township Tax Assessor. Records include information on assessment and property taxes in the McHenry County area, political candidates election brochures, Hare's testimonies on several house bills, and newspaper clippings.

Gene L. Hoffman Papers (Elmhurst)

Maple Grove Grange No.1746 Collection (Winnebago County)
