The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Afton Community Club Records (Elva)

Scope and Contents

The Afton Community Club Records consist of minute books dating 1934 to 1980.  Included in the minutes are treasurer’s reports, committee lists, and membership information.  A small amount of correspondence and newspaper clippings containing background information complete the collection.

Ella Hume Taylor Collection (Geneseo)

Harry A. Joslyn Collection (DeKalb County)

Scope and Contents The Harry A. Joslyn Collection (1860-1905) provides excellent documentation for the study of rural life in DeKalb County, Illinois during the second half of the nineteenth century. The bulk of the collection consists of a series of 39 diaries (1865-1905) written by Harry A. Joslyn of Cortland and Sycamore. Diaries for 1890 and 1891 are missing. Johnson Family Records (DeKalb County)

At present the collection contains information relating to Revere E. Jolly Neighbors Club Records (Prophetstown)

Lyford-Davis Family Collection

The core collection consists of the records of the Lyford-Davis Family from 1858 to 1951. It contains family diaries, ledgers, calendars, card games, photographs, and books. The collection documents the Lyford-Davis family life in their Midwestern farming community. The diaries document daily events and are mostly complete. Also in the collection are research notes and working papers for Carrie Meyer’s books about the family; the 2005 and 2007 publications are included in the collection.
