The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Abstract
The Regional History Center's postcard collection contains over 2,500 individual cards and provides a unique source for photographic and artistic documentation of people, places and events, the majority during the 1900-1940 period. A majority of the cards in this collection came from four manuscript collections held by the Center: W.W. Embree (RC 2); Sabin-Van Arsdale (RC 32); Kavadas (RC 50); Hall Family (RC 117).

The materials in the collection partially document Ray A. “Dutch” Scott’s 1974 campaign for Illinois State Senator. Included are correspondence, position papers, and projects describing Scott’s Democratic platform and his involvement in local community services prior to the 1974 campaign. Raymond Rolfe Diaries (DeKalb)

The eleven diaries written by Raymond Rolfe date from 1884 to 1909. The diaries are not a complete set but consist of volumes dating 1884-1886, 1889, 1891-1897, 1899, and 1905-1909. The Reed and Delong Records consist of 1 box of 8 ledger books. These books document the transactions of Hiram Delong and John Reed’s Pharmacy for the years from 1877 to 1893. These records document transactions for numerous dry goods items including matches, tobacco, plaster, coffee, pharmaceuticals and spices. Also included are prescriptions and cash books. Several ledgers identify customer’s and their purchases.
