The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

The materials in this collection document the preparations, financial arrangements, and special programs planned and celebrated at the DeKalb County Centennial (1934), DeKalb City Centennial (1956), DeKalb County’s celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial (1974-1977), and the DeKalb City Sesquicentennial (2006).

Series one, family papers, holds published and unpublished histories of the family, genealogical charts and research files, a wide range of legal documents, memorabilia, and personal correspondence of family members. This series provides a detailed record of family relationships and activities, especially during the 1835-1915 period. The papers of J.F. Glidden primarily document the personal and business activities of Joseph Farwell Glidden during the years 1882-1906, and to a lesser degree, other Glidden family members, relatives and friends from 1885-1954. Additionally, there are small quantities of records from the Henderson and Olson Company, Lee, Illinois, which have as yet an undetermined relationship with J.F. Glidden and are included herewith. Johnson Family Records (DeKalb County)
