DeKalb Area Garden Club Records
Scope and Contents
The DeKalb Area Garden Club Records date from 1983 to 1999. These records consist of the club’s constitution and by-laws, agenda, membership lists, treasurer’s reports, a complete set of newsletters, newspaper clippings, as well as open house and annual flower show information. It is important to note that the collection does not include a complete set of meeting minutes, although there are a limited number of minutes in the executive committee folder. This collection, although not complete, will provide the researcher with documentation on the growth of the organization and its activities. The addenda includes newsletters from January 2000 to December 2006.

Biographical or Historical Information
The DeKalb Area Garden Club [DAGC] was established in March 1983. It is a group of people, male and female, of varied ages, sharing the fellowship of gardening though educational projects and entertaining programs.
Since its inception, the DAGC has had a close relationship with the Gurler House. The club maintains the yards of the Gurler House in exchange for a place to hold its monthly meetings and annual open houses. The organization also works closely with the Ellwood House where it now holds its annual Gardener’s Flower Show.
In addition to its annual events, the organization hosts classes for both adults and children, invites guest speakers, and plans out-of-town trips, potluck dinners, and garden tours. The club raises money through membership dues, the sale of crafts, and donations.
