The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Scope and Contents
The Grand Army of the Republic records date from 1868 to 1933. The majority of the collection consists of reports of the Adjutant and Quartermaster, financial records, and membership lists and applications. Of special interest to researchers are the rules, regulations, services and ceremonies brochures for the Grand Army of the Republic. This collection comprises a small portion of the records created by the Mendota Business and Professional Women’s Club; most of the documents pre-dating 1954 have been lost. Minutes, correspondence, treasurer’s records, and membership statements and lists detail club activities and membership statistics from 1954 to 1976. Nine scrapbooks (1937-1975) provide a brief look at the club’s contributions to community concerns and affairs, but contain little detail on monthly meetings. Information...

The Regional History Center's postcard collection contains over 2,500 individual cards and provides a unique source for photographic and artistic documentation of people, places and events, the majority during the 1900-1940 period.
