The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Baldwin Family Papers (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents The Baldwin Family Papers consist of the private and business papers of Edwin S. Baldwin, his brother George W. Baldwin and their families. Box one contains one file folder of family letters, a diary, and numerous bills and tax receipts dating from the 1890’s to the mid twentieth century. Bertha G. Bradt Collection (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents The Bertha Glidden Bradt Collection contains textual and pictorial records relating to Bradt family genealogy and history dating 1830-1954, the Glidden family manuscripts, and materials from S.E. Raymond Rolfe Diaries (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents The eleven diaries written by Raymond Rolfe date from 1884 to 1909.  The diaries are not a complete set but consist of volumes dating 1884-1886, 1889, 1891-1897, 1899, and 1905-1909.  The diaries include information on the weather, deaths in the area, church services and prohibition conferences attended, the cost of food and supplies, bills paid, the jobs Rolfe worked, the length of time he worked them, and the money he earned.  Also mentioned in the diaries are events that happened in the...
