Baldwin Family Papers (DeKalb)
Scope and Contents
The Baldwin Family Papers consist of the private and business papers of Edwin S. Baldwin, his brother George W. Baldwin and their families. Box one contains one file folder of family letters, a diary, and numerous bills and tax receipts dating from the 1890’s to the mid twentieth century. Printed material documenting Masonic and Shriner activity during this period are also included in Box one. Box two includes dance programs, calling cards, glass plate negatives, photographs and various books.

Biographical or Historical Information
Edwin W. Baldwin (1864-1943) and his brother George W. Baldwin resided in DeKalb. E.W. Baldwin was an engineer and co-owner with G.W. Baldwin of a farm west of DeKalb. In 1898 E.W. Baldwin married Alice Taylor. Their son, E.W. , Jr. was horn in 1910 and became a civil engineer upon graduation from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. E.W. Baldwin, Sr. and his wife were members of the American Free and Accepted Masons and Eastern Star, respectively.
George W. Baldwin was chief cashier for the Haish State Rank. His wife was Adeline Taylor. They had a daughter, Helen, who became a teacher and taught in Arlington Heights (1920-21). G.W. Baldwin was a member of the Rockford Shriners.

Method of Acquisition
The Baldwin Family Papers were deposited in the Northern Illinois University Archives in the late 1960’s. University Archivist J. Joseph Bauxar transferred the collection to the Northern Illinois Regional History Center in June 1978.
