Through legislative action, Northern Illinois University acquired the College of Law from Lewis University in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, in June of 1979.  The materials in this collection include limited information on Maryknoll Seminary which had housed Lewis University’s College of Law, and Lewis University.  Most of the records prior to 1979 remain with Lewis University.  Included here is information on the history of the college; remodeling of Swen Parson Hall to accommodate the college; accreditation; correspondence (1982-1994); policies and procedures;  the Student Bar Association; publications; and photographs.  The College of Law also maintains its own archives.

Scope and Contents The College of Law records dates from 1949 to 1997 and consists of three series: Maryknoll Seminary, Lewis University, and NIU College of Law. Series I and II contain information on the Maryknoll Seminary and Lewis University. Maryknoll Seminary provided the building the College of Law was housed in while Lewis University founded the college. The College of Law series is divided into eight subseries: History, Merger, Remodeling; Accreditation Files; Correspondence; Policies, Procedures...
