BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Harvey Edward Hoyt was born July 7, 1907 in Elburn, Illinois, the youngest of three children born to Edward L. Hoyt and Della A. Sharp. Harvey graduated from the two-year program at Northern Illinois State Teachers College in 1928. He taught at the Elburn Elementary School, and later taught 5th grade at Sugar Grove Elementary School. A member of the Community Congregational Church in Elburn, he was noted for his work with the Boy Scouts. In addition to teaching, Harvey served as the Village Clerk of Elburn from 1948 until his retirement in September 1988. In 1965 Hoyt was awarded a Certificate of Merit for his years of faithful service as treasurer of the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association. He also wrote the “Late Twenties” column for the Northern Alumnus. A lifelong resident of Elburn, Harvey Hoyt died December 20, 1989 at the age of 82, at Jennings Terrace in Aurora, where he had been a patient for several months. The materials in this collection were donated by Marilyn Thompson in May and June of 2011.
