Paul J. Bennett Collection
Scope and Contents
The Paul J. Bennett Collection contains Dr. Bennett’s research on Burma in the form of primary and secondary sources such as newspaper articles (both clippings and photocopies) in English and Burmese, papers, handwritten notes, short stories, photos, correspondences, statements by various government agencies, and book chapters. The collection spans from 1958 to 1989 a majority of it however, is from the 1970’s. Topics in this collection range from Burmese history and literature, to government, law, military and daily life of the Burmese. The collection also includes items concerning other Southeast Asian countries, as well as Australia, Germany, Latin America and Portugal. The collection also includes an extensive bibliography.

Biographical or Historical Information
Paul Jerry Bennett joined the State Department in 1958, after obtaining a degree from Harvard Law School. He was an economic officer in the American Embassy in Rangoon, Burma. He also had diplomatic assignments to Burma in 1971 and 1973 and served as the American Consul in Chaing Mai, Thailand from 1979 to 1981. Bennett died in 1989
