Hauswald Family Account Books (Sycamore)
Scope and Contents
In his family account books, Walter E. Hauswald, chronicles over seven decades of the family’s finances dating from 1932 through 2000. The account books for September 1991 through August 1994 are missing. Mr. Hauswald’s detailed accounts itemize the family’s income and expenses over the years. Income was received from stocks, bonds, interest, wages and pensions. Documented expenses included those for transportation, education, toiletries, entertainment, food, gifts, home and cottage furnishings, insurance, medical expenses, organization dues, postage, taxes, children’s needs and more. Additionally, in the back of many books, Mr. Hauswald kept a daily record of the family’s activities as well as current events.

Walter E. Hauswald taught physics and chemistry at Sycamore High School for many years. His account books details the Hauswald family activities and show the expense of family life in Sycamore from 1932 through 2000.
