Biographical or Historical Information

"The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education.  It was founded as a college sorority at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa in 1869 and later voted to retain its English letters and its off-campus chapter thus changing from a college group to a community group."   The DX Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in DeKalb was founded on April 1, 1933 by  Mrs. Perrin, State Organizer and Mrs. Baymiller, State President.  Six P.E.O.'s from different chapters started the DeKalb chapter with Eva McKee as chair.  At Blanche Davidson's home, with its fourteen charter members, the new chapter was organized and its officers installed.   The chapter has contributed financially to the Grace E. Nix Scholarship at Northern Illinois University, the March of Dimes, the Red Cross, the P.E.O. United Victory Fund and the Cancer Society.  The International Peace Scholarship Fund, Cottey College (the P.E.O. sponsored college), and the P.E.O. Home have also been supported by the DeKalb Chapter.
