Scope and Contents
The Elise Matthesen Papers consists of printed (paper-based) materials. The collection is divided into series based upon format. Series I consists of Novels, Series II includes short stories, Series III contains Correspondence, Series IV is Screenplays, Poems, Essays and Outlines, Series V is Miscellaneous, and Series VI is Gaming Related Materials. Each Series is broken down into book series by date of publication.

Biographical or Historical Information
Elise Matthesen was born in Wisconsin in 1960. Matthesen is an essayist, journalist, poet, and fiction writer. She is a speaker and activitist about issue of body acceptance, bisexuality, polymory, and issues of self-esteem. Matthesen was a orginial contributor to the bisexual anthology, Bi Any Other Name. iN 1993, Matthesen's story The Stone Girl was published in the science fiction anthology Xanadu. In 2008, Matthesen's short story Focus of Desire was published in the anthology Lesbian Ghost Stories. is the editor of the science fiction magazine Electric Velocipede. In 2009, Matthesen was nominated for a World Fantasy Award for the Special Award- non professional category.
Elise is a central figure in the SF/F scene in Minneapolis/St. Paul. She is primarily a jewelry-maker and poet. She was one of John M (Mike) Ford's partners, and some of the materials in this collection belonged to Mike. She often creates jewelry that inspires the writing of particular short stories, or vice-versa.
