Scope and Contents

This collection consists of Medieval Manuscript leaves from across Europe, dating from the 11th century to the 16th century.  These leaves are made from a variety of sources, including vellum and parchment and are written on with a fine penmanship in bright inks.  Some of the leaves even have real gold foil inlaid on them.

The Medieval Manuscripts collection is used as a teaching tool and visual aid in the Rare Books department. Manuscripts are assorted sizes and listed in the library catalog. Other Descriptive Information

The mid-12th century Gospel Lectionary leaf containing readings from John 6 and 8 was owned by infamous book-breaker Ege. It is most likley part of the Leave 3 set noted on Denison University's Otto F. Ege Collection website, which is avaialbe at http://ege.denison.edu/leaf_03.php.
