Scope and Contents

In Series I, researchers will find early trypescript drafts, notes, page proofs, and book arts pertaining to Books 1-24 in the Liaden series. While original drafts for the first three novels in series are not included in this collection, researchers can still find early story notes for subsequent novels written from 1999-2017. Additional notes and drafts for Liaden novels published after 2017 can be found in Addendum I along with material pertaining to reprints of earlier novels. Sub-Series A includes material for the Liaden Universe omnibuses.

Series II comprises of stand-alone novels written by the author duo that are not set within the Liaden Universe. Novels written only by Sharon Lee can be found in Sub-Series B including the mystery novels Barnburner (2007) and Gunshy (2012), and the Carousel fantasy trilogy.

Short fiction works written by both the author duo and Sharon Lee are held in Series III. A small number of works include copies of the magazines and fanzines in which the work was originally published. Works written by Lee alone are found in Sub-Series C including Lee's first professional fiction publication, "A Matter of Ceremony" (1980). Of note, this sub-series also includes two literary magazines in which Lee’s High School literary works are published.

Sub-Series D is dedicated to materials pertaining to the authors' eBook publishing. The majority of ebook publishing was done by Embiid Publishing, a Hawaii based early e-pub company active between 2000 and 2008. Embiid published reprints of midlist Science Fiction and Romance titles in electronic format—the Liaden series likely being its most famous work—suitable for reading on a computer screen. Sub-Series E contains articles written by Sharon Lee from 1993-1996. These articles were published in Maine's community newspapers, Town Line and Sunday Sentinel.

Series V consists of correspondence with editors, publishers, and literary agents. This series also houses copies of Three Beers, the duo's newsletter shared with friends and science fiction colleagues.

Materials pertaining to public appearances, including science fiction conventions, and book launch marketing can be found in Sereis VI.

Addendum I includes materials received in the 2022 accession with the bulk pertaining to the Liaden series.
