Biographical or Historical Information

The Genoa Women's Club was organized in May 1947 and held their first regular meeting on September 25, 1947. The 116 members elected Mrs. Meredith Barker the first president, Mrs. Paul Barnes the vice president, Mrs. Dean Fauber the secretary, and Mrs. Harold Austin the treasurer. At this time the by-laws were written giving the purpose of the organization as the intellectual improvement, social enjoyment, and united efforts for the welfare of the community. The club has sponsored numerous service projects, held many fund raising affairs, and issued educational scholarships for students in the Genoa-Kingston area high school. On March 26, 1974, the members of the club discussed the advantages and the disadvantages of belonging to the 12th District Illinois Federation of Women's Club. It was decided the club would withdraw from the Federation effective September 1, 1974. The club continued their fund raising and service projects.
