Biographical or Historical Information
On February 27, 1913, farmers of DuPage County and the DuPage County Banker’s Association met in Wheaton, Illinois to discuss the promotion of farming efficiency on a scientific basis. Featured subjects included new developments in seed selection, feeding practices, soil conservation, and sanitation in handling livestock. On May 12, 1913, the DuPage County Agricultural Improvement Association was organized to supply these needed services and improve the profitability of farming in the county. The first officers elected were E.F. Adams, President; H.M. Baudemer, Vice-President; J.M. Stevens, Secretary: Peter Hoy, Treasurer. On April 4, 1921 the DuPage County Agricultural Association changed its name to the DuPage County Farm Bureau.
During the 1920’s, the DuPage County Farm Bureau recognized the need for an expanded program to strengthen marketing and bargaining positions. Three associations affiliated with the DuPage County Farm Bureau provided these services: the DuPage County Farmer’s Protective Association, the DuPage County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, and the Will-DuPage Service Company. Services provided by these subsidiaries included the purchasing, marketing, and selling of feed, seed, fertilizer, petroleum products, agricultural equipment, and supplies used in farm production.
Located in Wheaton, Illinois, the DuPage County Farm Bureau continues to provide many benefits and services to its members.
