Biographical or Historical Information

The Hanover Scenic Grange No. 1935 held its first meeting on January 22, 1964, in the basement of St. John’s Church, Hanover, Illinois. Joined by the State Master, eighteen charter members organized this subordinate Grange and elected officers that first night. As with other Granges founded in the twentieth century, Hanover Scenic Grange was primarily a social organization. Grange members usually involved themselves with civic activities such as hospital visits and worthy donations. At the same time fraternal obligations were met through picnics, pot luck dinners, bake sales and speaker nights. In the Spring of 1978, members gathered together and mutually agreed they had too few active members to continue. On May 5, 1978, the Hanover Scenic Grange officially gave up its charter and disbanded.
