Scope and Contents

The Patricia Wrede Papers consists of printed (paper-based) and handwritten manuscripts, along with a small amount of correspondence associated to those materials. The collection is divided into series based upon format. Series I consists of novels; Series II includes unpublished manuscripts; Series III contains plays; Series IV consists of non-authored manuscripts; Series V contains correspondence; Series VI is miscellaneous. Series VII includes digital content. The majority of materials are organized within their series based upon original date of publication.

Property Rights are transferred to the University Libraries per the signed Deed of Gift Document. Literary Rights are retained by the content creator.  Any copyrights so stated in the materials remain in force.

Biographical or Historical Information

Patricia Wrede is an author that currently lives in the suburbs of the Twin Cities in Minnesota with her two cats Cazaril and Nimue. Wrede was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1953. She attended Carleton College in Minnesota after graduating high school 1970 where she obtained an A.B. in Biology in 1974. After she spent a year working in clerical jobs, she earned a M.B.A. at the University of Minnesota in 1977. Wrede began working as a financial analyst and in her spare time she would write. In 1980 she became the founding member of the Interstate Writers’ Workshop (Scribblies) and sold her first novel, Shadow Magic. She was a member of Scribblies for 5 years. She quit her job as a financial analyst and began her full time job as writer in 1985. Wrede has published over 20 novels, several short stories, and won awards like ALA Best Book for Young Adults in 1993.
