Scope and Contents

The Lyda Morehouse papers consists of printed (paper-based) drafts, manuscripts, synopsis, correspondences, outlines, notes, page proofs, writing contest entries, original writing from high school and college, publications with her work, and Ms. Morehouse's original folders for her work.  The collection is divided into series based upon format. Series I consists of novels, series II consists of short stories, series III consists of unpublished and unfinished work, series IV consist of correspondence, series V consists of publications, and series VI consists of miscellaneous articles. Within each section organization is based on original date of work.

Biographical or Historical Information

Lyda Morehouse is a science fiction and fantasy author.  She was born in Sacramento California in 1967.  Her and her family moved to her father’s home town of LaCrosse Wisconsin six months after she was born.  She was raised Unitarian Universalist but attended a Cathedral school.  While in school she was involved in debate and Future Problem Solvers of America.  She was voted “Biggest Women's Libber” her senior year in high school.  In 1985 Ms. Morehouse moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota to attend Augsburg College, a private Lutheran liberal arts school, where she received BA’s in English and History.  Rewards Ms. Morehouse has won include the 2002 Shamus award for best original paperback novel featuring a private investigator, Barnes & Noble Maiden Voyage Award for best debut science fiction/fantasy novel, her novel, Apocalypse Array won the Philip K. Dick Special Citation Award for Excellence in mass market paperback science fiction novels, and she was a nominee for the Romantic Times Critic’s Choice for best science fiction.
