Scope and Contents
The materials in this collection partially document the business activities of the Fairview Park Cemetery Association from 1903 to 1959. Box one contains cemetery business correspondences arranged in alphabetical order and within that chronological, dating from 1911 to 1953. Also included are the cemetery’s local land records, bank statements, bills, receipts, and the employee’s tax returns, all dating 1903-1952 and burial permits arranged chronologically dating 1902-1918. Also included in box one is an index dating from 1903 to 1982 written by Florence Marshall. Burial permits Box two contains interment orders arranged in chronological order from 1903-1951. These cemetery records provide the date and cause of death, the age at death, the name of the family member who purchased the plot and his/her relationship with the person buried in the plot. This collection would be particularly helpful for enthusiasts in local history and genealogy. Records of cemetery inscriptions contain family names prominent in DeKalb history.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Fairview Park Cemetery Association, DeKalb, Illinois, was incorporated in 1902 as a not-for-profit organization. In 1903, the Association Charter was canceled due to legal technicalities, but was reinstated in 1904. On April 1906, the Association leased a 35 acre tract of land to the University of Illinois for the purpose of experimental alfalfa sowing. The five year lease was renewed over a thirty year time span. During this time (l906-1934), Samuel E. Bradt served on the official board as secretary and treasurer. In November 1951, the management of the Fairview Park Cemetery was taken over by Fairview Memorial Park, Inc.
