Biographical or Historical Information
The Marengo Grange No. 1922 began meeting in the basement of the Hawthorne School building on July 20, 1951. The charter members, numbering 45, elected Albert Ebel, Master, Harold Carmach, Overseer, Ruth Simons, Treasurer, and Mary Hachmeister, Secretary. Several committees also were formed to report on pending agricultural legislative proposals that would directly effect rural life in the area. Successful in it’s efforts to make the farm family a stronger unit and the rural community more self-contained, Marengo Grange remains an active community organization today.
