Scope and Contents
This collection of The Star Reporter dates from 1965 to 1981. The issues from August 1976 to January 1980 are missing with the 1975-1981 run incomplete. The Reporter contains a wide variety of information on activities in McHenry County. In particular, the governmental aspect of the county is featured. Additional topics include population, public schools, transportation, and organizational information. The collection would be particularly useful for researchers studying the political climate of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Star Reporter began in 1957 as a newsletter of the Government Improvement League of McHenry County. Cal Skinner, Sr. belonged to the group and was responsible for publishing the newsletter. From 1963 to 1968 the publication became the Public Affairs Newsletter. Finally, in 1969, Skinner became owner and publisher of the newsletter printing business, renaming the publication The Star Reporter. Mr. Skinner sold the publishing company in September 1981.
