The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Prairie State Canoeists Records

Scope and Contents

Series I, Organization Records, consists the original Articles of Incorporation, by-laws and resolutions, and meeting minutes from 1988 to present.  The meeting minutes before 1988 have been lost.  Series II, Trip Reports, date from 1975 to 1998 and contain the reports written by the leader of each trips and a lists of participants.  The Addendum to the collection contains newsletters dating from 1971 to the present.

Prairie View Grange Records (Pecatonica)

Scope and Contents The Prairie View Grange No. 1786 Collection documents the establishment and history of a farming organization in Pecatonica, Illinois from 1915 to its dissolution in 1970. Princeton Game and Fish Club Records

Putnam Family Collection (Harvard)

Scope and Contents The Putnam Family Collection is a partial documentation of the breeding of Jersey cattle on the Russel E. Putman dairy farm in the 1940’s in Harvard, Illinois. Ray "Dutch" Scott Papers (DeKalb)

The materials in the collection partially document Ray A. “Dutch” Scott’s 1974 campaign for Illinois State Senator. Raymond Rolfe Diaries (DeKalb)

Reed and Delong Pharmacy Records (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents

The Reed and Delong Records consist of 1 box of 8 ledger books.  These books document the transactions of Hiram Delong and John Reed’s Pharmacy for the years from 1877 to 1893.  These records document transactions for numerous dry goods items including matches, tobacco, plaster, coffee, pharmaceuticals and spices.  Also included are prescriptions and cash books.  Several ledgers identify customer’s and their purchases.

Richard J. Nelson Collection
