The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Lanan Family Farm Records (Kingston)

Scope and Contents These records partially document the history of the Lanan Farm in Kingston, Illinois from 1848-1978. Although few records in this collection deal with the early history of the farm, several land indentures and grants provide details of farm land transfers in the mid-nineteenth century. Latham Castle Papers (Sandwich)

Laura Cooper Collection (Byron)

Scope and Contents Laura Cooper’s diaries, located in box one, date from 1892 to 1893, 1938 to 1942, 1944 to 1948, and 1954 to 1965. League of Women Voters of the Rochelle Area

Scope and Contents The League for Women Voters of the Rochelle Area organized in 1971 and became an official League in 1973. Library Whist Club Records (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents

The records for the Library Whist Club date from 1898 to 2006 and include membership lists, minute books, correspondence, and whist game rules.  The minute books date from January 26, 1903 through November 3, 1930.  The early minutes are not included in the collection.  A history of the club can be gleaned from the constitution, minutes, and newspaper articles while the rules of the game can be found in the publications.
