The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Eli B. Gilbert Family Collection (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents The Eli B. Gilbert Family Collection spans five generations, all of whom have resided at 210 N. 1st Street in DeKalb.  Materials in this collection date from the 1830's to the 1990's, although the bulk of the collection dates from the 1860's through the mid-1940's. Judge A.G. Kennedy Papers (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents

The A. C. Kennedy Papers consist of a very small segment of the records maintained by Judge Kennedy. Included are correspondence from various clients (1941-1944) affidavits filed by Kennedy, and business and personal invoices (1941-1944). The records arrived with the Dennis J. Collins Papers and represent the years Kennedy and Collins were law partners.

Latham Castle Papers (Sandwich)

Scope and Contents The Latham Castle collection primarily documents the career of Latham Castle as Attorney General for the State of Illinois, 1953-1959. Supplementary but sparse material concerns his subsequent appointment as Federal Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. People Who Care Records (Rockford)

Scope and Contents The materials in the People Who Care Records date from 1969 to 2007. Series I documents the case of People Who Care vs. the Rockford Board of Education from 1989 to 1999, and include reports and correspondence related to the lawsuit.
