The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

The J.W. Sandrock Farm records date from 1937 to 1990 and contain reports for the farm located in Reynolds Township, Lee County, Illinois. There is a gap in the records from 1975 to 1988. These records partially document the history of the Lanan Farm in Kingston, Illinois from 1848-1978. Although few records in this collection deal with the early history of the farm, several land indentures and grants provide details of farm land transfers in the mid-nineteenth century. Lyford-Davis Family Collection

Scope and Contents
The core collection consists of the records of the Lyford-Davis Family from 1858 to 1951. It contains family diaries, ledgers, calendars, card games, photographs, and books. The collection documents the Lyford-Davis family life in their Midwestern farming community. The diaries document daily events and are mostly complete. Also in the collection are research notes and working papers for Carrie Meyer’s books about the family; the 2005 and 2007 publications are included in the collection.
