The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

David C. Shapiro Papers (Amboy)

Scope and Contents The David C. Shapiro Papers primarily document his career as a state legislator in the Illinois House of Representatives and Senate. DeKalb County Building and Construction Trades Council Records

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of the records of the DeKalb County Building and Construction Trades Council from 1950 to 2001. The records include administrative files, minutes, correspondence, printed materials, legal documentation, and audio-visual materials. The records reflect the organization’s activities as a labor union. The correspondence includes letters from individuals, labor organizations, private companies, and public organisms. The minutes have many gaps, especially before 1980.

DeKalb League of Women Voters Records

Scope and Contents The DeKalb League of Women Voters, organized soon after the formation of the national League, educated the first women voters of DeKalb County on the mechanics and policies of government. League of Women Voters of the Rochelle Area

Scope and Contents The League for Women Voters of the Rochelle Area organized in 1971 and became an official League in 1973. They work to provide information on relevant, voter oriented topics, as well as hold open forums for candidates, train future candidates, and register voters. Nineteenth Century Political Cartoons Collection

Peg Breslin Papers (Ottawa)

Scope and Contents

The records of the Peg Breslin Papers include information from 1976 to 1992+.  The records include speech notes, legislation records, court documents, materials on child care, correspondence, campaign records, materials on the Democratic Party’s State Central Committee, Photographs, and videos.  The campaign records include Breslin’s run for State Treasurer in 1990 and her election to Appellate Judge in 1992.
