The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

The Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society records date from 1956 to present and are divided into nine series: General Administrative Records, Ingersoll Prize Records, Publications, Conferences, Public Relations Records, The Center on Religion and Society Records, John Howard Papers, Allan Carlson Papers, and Michael Warder Papers. A majority of the records document the history of The Rockford Institute rather than The Howard Center.

Joyce Holmberg Papers

The Joyce Holmberg Papers date from 1982 to 2002. The records include documents, news articles, copies of Senate bills, and photographs. Of special interest are the information on the legislation sponsored by Holmberg and her radio commentaries for WNIU, a radio station at Northern Illinois University.

The collection consists of materials from the Ohave Sholom Synagogue, Rockford, Illinois, from 1941-2013, with the bulk of the collection dating from 1980-2005. The materials document the functioning of the synagogue and reflect its spiritual, educational, and social mission. Records dealing with the history of the synagogue prior to the 1970s are few. Also archived are 211 digital images of the synagogue and the artifacts within it.

The materials in the People Who Care Records date from 1969 to 2007. Series I documents the case of People Who Care vs. the Rockford Board of Education from 1989 to 1999, and include reports and correspondence related to the lawsuit.
