The Regional Collections include original manuscripts and records generated by private individuals, institutions, and organizations from throughout the eighteen northern Illinois counties. The collections span the period from 1800 to the present and focus on several major themes in the region's history: agriculture, politics, ethnic heritage, commerce and industry, the role of women, and urban expansion. To provide documentation in these areas of interest the Center actively collects the historical records of farmers and their organizations, businesses and retail stores, state and local politicians, churches, cemeteries, civic agencies, individuals, women's organizations, and labor unions. In addition, the Center holds vertical file manuscripts, county and local histories, atlases and plat books, city directories, maps, broadsides, posters, photographs, oral histories, genealogical journals, and core reference printed materials on the history of northern Illinois that complement the manuscript collections.

Judge A.G. Kennedy Papers (DeKalb)

Scope and Contents

The A. C. Kennedy Papers consist of a very small segment of the records maintained by Judge Kennedy. Included are correspondence from various clients (1941-1944) affidavits filed by Kennedy, and business and personal invoices (1941-1944). The records arrived with the Dennis J. Collins Papers and represent the years Kennedy and Collins were law partners.

Latham Castle Papers (Sandwich)

Scope and Contents The Latham Castle collection primarily documents the career of Latham Castle as Attorney General for the State of Illinois, 1953-1959. Supplementary but sparse material concerns his subsequent appointment as Federal Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. An oral history interview dated February 23, 1976, spans his lifetime and career. The materials are arranged both topically and chronologically whenever possible. Peg Breslin Papers (Ottawa)

Scope and Contents

The records of the Peg Breslin Papers include information from 1976 to 1992+.  The records include speech notes, legislation records, court documents, materials on child care, correspondence, campaign records, materials on the Democratic Party’s State Central Committee, Photographs, and videos.  The campaign records include Breslin’s run for State Treasurer in 1990 and her election to Appellate Judge in 1992.
