Record Group Term
Identifier: RHC/UA/16
The Provost is the chief academic officer at NIU. The Vice-President and Provost Office expanded the Dean of Faculty position, which was created in 1941, to direct the academic departments' activities. Until 1941 all academic and non-academic departments had reported directly to the president. There are four major series within this collection: administrative subject files; the office's financial records; academic programs; and selected personal documents concerning Northern’s faculty. These records document the evolution of the office and include papers from the various provost’s. This is the single most comprehensive set of records documenting the academic history of the university.
