Scope and Contents
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Howard Nash Johnston came to Northern Illinois State Normal School in the Fall of 1908 from Byron, Illinois. Johnston played on the baseball, basketball and football teams and participated in a number of school related activities, and was a member of the Patriots, and the “King” of a group known as the “Trouble Cleft.” Following his graduation in 1910 Johnston was principal in Kingston, Illinois. He married Eva Stanbury, also from Byron, class of 1912. In 1977 Howard N. Johnston was President of the Holcomb State Bank in Holcomb, Illinois. This collection contains one scrapbook and a folder which contain photographs and memorabilia relating to Howard Nash Johnston’s activities at NISNS, as well as photographs of the women of the Tudor Boarding Club, and from the classes of 1908 thru 1910. The collection was brought in by the Northern Alumni Association in August 2004.
