Scope and Contents
The World War II Scrapbooks contain six scrapbooks of newspaper articles concerning World War II spanning 1940 to 1946. The articles originate from various newspapers both local and national, most of which are unidentifiable. Known source publications include Chicago Tribune, Life, and the Rockford Register Republic. Articles often reference individuals, organizations, or events relating to the Northern Illinois region. The creator of the scrapbooks is unknown. The scrapbooks themselves are wallpaper books, meaning the creator re-purposed oversize wallpaper sample books and glued the news clippings directly to the pages. Researchers should note that as is the nature of both newsprint and scrapbooks, the materials are difficult to preserve, and are of delicate condition.
