BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH C. Mason Myers was born on September 9, 1916 in Dowagiac, Michigan.  He received his B.S. from Western Michigan University in 1941, M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1949, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1954.  Myers began his teaching career in 1953  as a Junior Instructor at the University of Michigan while still earning his Ph.D.  In 1955, Myers took an Assistant Professor position at Long Island University.  He left Long Island in 1959 for an Associate Professor position at Northern Illinois University, and aside from a few jaunts as a Visiting Professor, Myers worked at NIU until his death in 1986.  Upon arrival he headed the Philosophy Department, and in 1962 he was promoted to full professor.  In 1966, he spent a summer as a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan, and he spent the 1968-1969 school year as a Visiting Professor at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Myers published over twenty articles, wrote reviews, gave numerous talks, and presented many papers all while teaching and endearing students to the world of philosophy.  His specialties were Metaphilosophy, Philosophy of the Mind, Analytical Philosophy, and Epistemology.  He was a member of the American Philosophical Association and Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology.  While head of the Philosophy Department at NIU, Myers oversaw the hiring of new faculty members and student examinations.  He also found time to spearhead numerous committees for the department.  He even served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in the Air Corps. Myers died from a heart attack on December 3, 1986 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, IL.  He was survived by his wife, Madeline.
