BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Katherine Walker was born October 28, 1909 in Byron, Michigan.  She came to Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College as Circulation Librarian in 1942.  Throughout her career at Northern, Miss Walker held a number of positions including Acting Head Librarian, 1948-1949, Assistant Professor and Librarian, 1951-1959, Assistant Director, 1959-1971, and Associate Professor and Director, 1971-1973.  As a member of the library staff for 31 years, Miss Walker participated in state and national library associations and served on various committees as chairman of sections and discussion groups.  Miss Walker was also an affiliated member of the Illinois and National Education Associations, the Illinois Association for Higher Education, and the Librarians of Illinois State Universities.  On August 30, 1973, Katherine Walker retired from NIU, but she remained in DeKalb until her death on February 10, 1997.
