BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Dr. Charles W. Leslie received his B.A. (1930) and M.A. (1933) degrees from the University of Toronto, his B.D. degree (1939) from Emmanuel College, Toronto, and his Ph.D. degree (1945) from Harvard University. In 1961, after serving on the faculties at Victoria College and Emmanuel College, Toronto, Canada, the University of Maryland, and Huntington College, Sudbury, Ontario, Dr. Leslie came to Northern Illinois University. Leslie headed NIU's Department of Philosophy from 1965 to 1968. During his term as chairman, the department doubled in enrollment and faculty and established the foundation for a growing graduate program. In addition to serving as head of the Philosophy Department, Leslie was a member of the University Council and the John Dewey Society, and served on the Joint Institutional Policy Committee. In 1968, Dr. Leslie relinquished his duties as head of the Department of Philosophy. In 1973 Leslie retired from teaching.
