War Time Propaganda, Cartoons by Herbert Johnson
Scope and Contents
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH A 1888 graduate of Northwestern University and a student and faculty member at the University of Chicago for nearly five years, Edward C. Page came to Northern Illinois State Normal School in 1899 as the head of the Department of History. Later he was head of the Department of Social Science. His early interests were in collecting memorabilia of early America in order to enhance the teaching of history for both teacher and students. Materials collected included: posters, letters, uniforms, and weapons illustrative of World Wars I and II; textiles, furniture, farm implements, and machinery of the early Illinois farmer. In 1912 Page continued his project by establishing a museum in two offices formerly used by the training school. The museum became known as the Page Museum of Historical Materials. Throughout his career Page participated in local, state, and national historical societies by reading papers, reviewing books, and serving as chairman of program sections. He also served as a member of the American Historical Association and the Illinois State Historical Society. In his thirtieth year of service on Northern’s faculty, Edward C. Page contracted pneumonia and died at his home in DeKalb on December 26, 1929.
