William P. Froom

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Born in 1913, William P. Froom later received his B.S. (1936) and M.S. (1940) degrees from Northwestern University and completed his Ed.D. at Indiana University. From 1947 to 1977 William Froom served on the faculty at Northern Illinois University. He held the following positions: Associate, Department of Public Relations, 1947-1948; Assistant Director of Public Relations in charge of Radio Publicity, 1948-1949; Assistant Director, Department of Public Relations, 1949-1951; Instructor and Assistant Director of Public Relations, 1941-1952; Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Public Relations, 1952-1955; Assistant Professor and Acting Director of Regional Services (former title – Department of Public Relations) 1955-1956; Associate Professor and Director of Regional Services, 1956-1977. In 1974 the American College Public Relations Association presented Froom with its “Seasoned Sage Award,” an honor bestowed upon members actively involved in college and university relations for twenty-five years. After 30 years of service to Northern, William Froom retired at the end of the 1976-1977 academic year.
