Frank G. Dickenson

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Frank G. Dickenson, son of Charles and Anna Dickenson, was born June 13, 1899. He received his A.B. from the University of Illinois in 1921, M.A. from Penn State in 1923, and Ph.D. in 1927 from University of Illinois. Dickenson taught on the Economics faculty of University of Illinois 1921-1922, at Penn State 1922-1923, and at University of Illinois from 1923 until 1946. He then served as Director of the Bureau of Medical Economic Research, American Medical Association in Chicago from 1946 to 1958. His next position was Director of Study of Philanthropy at the National Bureau of Economic Research in New York City, 1958-1962. Dickenson came to NIU in September of 1962 and retired in June 1967. He was an honorary member of Phi Kappa Phi in the field of Home Economics, a member of Delta Chi social fraternity, the American Economics Association, American Statistical Association, American Market Association, and served as President of the American Association of University Teachers of Insurance, 1944-1945. Dickenson was the originator of the Dickenson Football rating system which was considered to be the most reliable in the field during the period 1924 to 1940. He was married to Jennie Ruth Cherrington and had three children, John, Ruth (Fields), and Theodore. Dickenson died in his home in DeKalb, Illinois on September 22, 1967.
