Scope and Contents
INTRODUCTION “Biographical Interviews” will take place from time to time, conducted by various students, staff, or faculty. They may be in tape and/or written formats. Property rights in the series belong to the Regional History Center; literary rights are dedicated to the public. There are no restrictions on access to these materials. DESCRIPTION The narrators of these interviews will be Northern Illinois University people, and their reminiscences will discuss how they achieved their present status, their past work related experiences, and other University interests. Special events or topics may also be discussed, or memories of a particular college or department, etc., but all interviews will in someway relate to the history of NIU. Note: Roth Shonle Cavan was born in 1896 and received her M.A. (1923) and Ph.D. (1926) degrees in Sociology from the University of Chicago. By 1935 she joined the faculty of Rockford College, and was active in many national and international organizations. In 1964 Dr. Cavan came to NIU as a distinguished teacher, writer and social scientist. She retired in 1971 and continued to contribute to her discipline and her community until her death in 1993.

Biography
