Scope and Contents
This novel was Lerner's first sucessful professional sale. The draft title for this novel was, Gathering of Minds, as seen in folder 5, then changed to, Calculating Minds. This working title can be seen on typescripts in folders 6-14. The novel's title was changed to Chimera and later Probe. After the novel was acquired by Warner Books, the publisher requested the typescript be cut down from 90,000 to 75,000 words. The author's notes and susequent drafts to satisfy the pubisher's request are included in folders 11-17.
