Scope and Contents
The Dixon Chamber of Commerce records are organized into three series: Minutes & Committees, Programs & Events, and Subject Files & Publications. The collection documents the Chamber’s activities from 1920-1980, although two earlier documents are included in Box one, folder one: a copy of the original incorporation papers (1887) and the resolution that changed the organization’s name (1915). The first series, Minutes & Committees, contains Board of Directors Minutes (1920-1979), Minutes of various committees (1964-1979) and financial information (1925-1966). Additional financial reports and committee minutes are located within the Board minutes. Due to a fire in the Chamber’s office, some of the Board minutes are singed and difficult to read. The second series, Programs & Events, consists of background files on the Chamber’s Annual Dinner (1967-1971), Consumer Complaints (1967-1978), the New Teachers Welcome (1965-1967), and Business Management Seminars (1977-1978). Related to these files are those in the third series, Subject Files & Publications. Subjects covered in this series are Airport Planning (1928-1931), Dixon’s Centennial (1930) and Promotional Pamphlets, Maps and Guides of Dixon (1953-1967). Researchers should note that the collection contains no material on Dixon’s annual Petunia Festival.
